Congratulations Bathurst Team - 2009 Winners

The Concrete Masonry Association of Australia (CMAA) NSW Promotional Committee in co-operation with TAFE NSW hosted competitors taking part in the 9th biennial Golden Trowel Awards and proudly sponsored by ABBTF.

The competition included all NSW TAFE's and a team from each other State of Australia.

The team from ACT comprised:

TAFE/RTO: Construction Industry Training & Employment Association (CITEA)

Trainer: Lynne Sheffield

Apprentices: Tim Ratz and Stephen Hynes

In a closely contested competition the Bathurst team were able to hold out and win victory against competing teams from across the nation for this prestigious award. Each team comprising a trainer and a Stage 2 and Stage 3 apprentice, completed a detailed building project to a set plan with a given quantity of concrete blocks.

For onlookers the quality of work and workmanship was astonishing. Each team seemed to approach the task in a different way, but the final projects were indistinguishable to anyone without detailed industry experience. The judges were all industry professionals and trainers including Tony Bishop, ABBTF Queensland Manager. The competition proved an ideal platform to showcase the features of concrete block construction and also the skills of the competing apprentices.
