The Bricklaying Exhibit at a Careers Expo
Contact your State ABBTF office for the next available Expo Dates nearest you, or call 1300 66 44 96.
What to Expect
Careers expos provide a great opportunity to explore new ideas for your future and to ask lots of questions about careers you’re already thinking about, like bricklaying and the careers that spring from it… such as project management, building, estimating, site supervision and so on.
ABBTF aims to participate in as many Careers Expos as possible with its “Become a Bricklayer” expo stand. At the bricklaying display you’ll always find a Try-a-Trade demonstration set up where you’re invited to lay a few bricks. Friendly bricklaying teachers and trainers will explain what’s involved in undertaking a Bricklaying Apprenticeship, the course duration, the employment options in your State, the periods of training off-site at college vs the regular onsite work training, allowances, and the very flexible training arrangements available if you’re living remotely.
ABBTF staff will also be on hand to explain the process of finding an employer who is the best ‘fit’ for you. We put great importance on the Apprentice and Employer being right for each other – we want this to be the best decision of your life! We’re available to guide you through this process.
Training College Open Days
TAFE colleges and other Registered Training Organisations (RTO) put their facilities on display at various times of the year, aiming to attract you to undertake courses at their locations. Visiting these on open day is a great way to learn more about the trade, the training environment and to meet the teachers who’ll instruct you. We don’t always have up to date lists of Open Days, but will always publish what we have, so keep watching.
However, the location of your closest TAFE/RTO Bricklaying training site is available here:
Handy Tips for Your Training College / RTO Visit:
- Call them up and find out when the next Open Day is, don’t wait till you’re made up your mind.
- Think about the questions you’d like answered by the staff before you visit to make the most of the trip.
- Ask if they have contacts with good employers looking for an apprentice.
