Apprentice blocklayers from around the country are in the final stages of their preparation to compete at the 2013 Golden Trowel competition event at Coffs Harbour TAFE September 1st to 3rd at the Bricklaying Section in Glenreagh Street.
The Concrete Masonry Association of Australia (CMAA) Golden Trowel Award is highly sought after by competing teams from New South Wales TAFE colleges as well as teams from Queensland, the Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia. Competitors and winners from the 2012 National WorldSkills will be among the talent lined up for the event.
Each team comprises a class teacher, a Stage 2 student and a Stage 3 student.
The challenging concrete masonry project is released to the competitors the night before the competition starts and is judged by a panel of industry experts at the end of the allotted time.
ABBTF is the major sponsor of the Golden Trowel competition which celebrates excellence in concrete blocklaying.
Many winning apprentices from past years have gone on to win industry and WorldSkills awards, as well as run successful brick and blocklaying businesses. Good luck to all the competitors.
