Victorian Tradie Apprentices Get Half Price Rego

Great news guys! Victoria’s Labor Government has announced a new half-price registration scheme for tradie apprentices effective from January 1, 2016, including bricklaying.

Registration renewal notices will be issued next week outlining the steps for eligible trade apprentices to take advantage of the Government’s discount for apprentices.

ABBTF Sun Smart Alert to Bricklayers

With a forecast for an extremely hot and long summer, I’d like to remind bricklayers and apprentices of the need to cover up and use sunscreen while on the job, to protect you from skin cancer.

Already we have experienced unseasonal very high temperatures during the month of November.

I encourage all bricklayers to wear a hat, available from your ABBTF State Office if you wish, and to apply the new ABBTF 30+ sunscreen to avoid damage from the sun’s rays.

Tis the Season to be Training … ♪ ♫ ♪ ♫ ♪

As the year draws to a close, there is no doubt that 2015 has seen some of the best building and construction figures in recent years in Queensland and all forecasters are predicting this level to be maintained for the next few years.

ABBTF supports these forecasts and has been busy sourcing candidates for our Work Ready Programs (WRP). Our WRP’s are a great way for a candidate to gain knowledge on what it takes to be an apprentice in the Brick and Blocklaying industry. Similar Work Ready programs are held by ABBTF around Australia.

Have you ever looked at the Bricklaying/Blocklaying Apprenticeship Certificate III course and thought it needed changes? Well, here’s your opportunity to review the recommendations of the Construction and Property Services Industry Skills Council (CPSISC) for the redrafting of our Apprenticeship qualification. You’ll have to hurry though, feedback closes this Wednesday November 18.

Saturday Bricklaying ‘Taster’ in Orange, an Outstanding Success

Hi to all. I’m Brendan Coyle, your new NSW ABBTF State Manager and I’m looking forward to keeping you up-to-date on what’s happening around the State from now on. This is a great story because it’s about helping the industry connect with new potential bricklaying apprentices.

Country West MCA (CWMCA) recently organised a day for the local youths of Orange and surrounding areas to come along and experience bricklaying for a day, first hand. The event achieved a great turn-out especially given it was a Saturday. It was held at Towac Park Raceway at Orange, a first class venue for bricklaying trials. 19 young guys attended and participated in the construction of both piers and walls and a constructive experience was had by all.
