Aziz Muradi is a great example of grabbing opportunities in both hands in achieving a start in an apprenticeship in bricklaying in the ACT.
Aziz is a 19 year old refugee from Afghanistan who fled his war torn country in a boat in 2012. His experience in bricklaying started when he laid his first brick during an ABBTF Step Out Program.
This taster program was followed by some real job ready training in a bricklaying access training program delivered by Bricklayer Training Australia.
This was followed by a work experience placement with Colin McLean to prepare him for a possible apprenticeship. Colin said “Aziz is one of the best young apprentices he has seen in the industry.”
Aziz then started his apprenticeship through YC Industry Link where he was placed with his host employer Michael Stefanovic at Stunners Construction.
ABBTF is supporting his employment with subsidies to YC Industry Links which flow through to benefit his host employer.
Bricklayer Training Australia will be commencing another training program in September to prepare a new group of jobseekers for the industry under Better Linkages funding. Interested jobseekers and employers looking for apprentices should contact Marcus Watson at YC Industry Link on 0429 210 051.
Aziz has the determination and drive to be a success in bricklaying and we wish him well for a well earned better life in his new country.
