Tim Karkowski, 24, from Albion Park, NSW, enjoys his work as a bricklayer. But who wouldn’t take a shot at fame with a voice and looks like his.
After a long term interest in singing, including plenty of singing on the job, some lessons and playing in a band, Tim decided late last year that he was ready to put in his application to appear on Channel 9’s The Voice. His blind audition aired Sunday April 20 and with great panache he had the audience on their feet with his take on Sheppard’s pop hit ‘Coming Home’.
Delta Goodrem, one of the four judges on The Voice, snapped him up as coach for the next stage where artists go head-to-head in groups of three as they perform a song their coach has chosen within a theme. Unfortunately Tim couldn’t make it to the finals.
Tim told the Illawarra Mercury that when he’s not on site working he’s surfing, skating, at the gym, or gigging with his band Turning Tides. “We’re just a covers band at the moment but we’re pushing originals now,” he said. Find Your Freedom!
You can catch Karkowski and his bandmates around Wollongong at venues like The Brewery and Town Hall Chambers.
It wasn’t just vocal tones Karkowski scored praise for. Both Goodrem and fellow coach Kelly Rowland commented on the blonde-haired, tattooed brickie’s visual appeal, making him feel “very flattered”.
Good luck Tim and to all aspiring talent, a Bricklaying Apprenticeship could be your start!
