Via Federal Government Additional Identified Skills Shortage (AISS) payment incentive!
WHAT IS (AISS)
The Additional Identified Skills Shortage (AISS) payment is available to eligible apprentices commencing from 1 July 2019 and their employers, in ten occupations experiencing national skills shortages (this list includes Bricklayers and Blocklayers).
WHAT PAYMENTS ARE AVAILABLE?
Eligible Australian Apprentices in national skills shortage areas will receive $1,000 at the 12 month point from commencement of their apprenticeship, and an additional $1,000 at completion of the apprenticeship.
HOW TO CLAIM?
- At the 12-month mark, the Federal Government sends a Smart Form to your Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (AASN).
The AASN forwards it onto the apprentice and the employer.
- The apprentice completes the Smart Form and must attach evidence of employment eg. a recent payslip.
Conditions are at the 12-month mark the apprentice must be with their current employer to receive the payments.*
You can also receive the Federal Government’s Trade Support Loan. You could borrow just a small amount over a few months or receive payments over the four years of your apprenticeship, up to the lifetime limit of $21,542 (for 2020-21). To find out more about a TSL, talk to your local Australian Apprenticeship Support Network Provider. Your provider will take you (and your parent or guardian if you’re under 18) through the loan program in detail.
