Hey guys – it’s on again – the fantastic NQ Supa Trowel challenge in Northern Queensland.
It’s Queensland’s top showcase of the blocklaying trades craftsmanship and is a testament to the speed and skill of the industry workforce. Only those blocklayers who have the skill, confidence and courage to face-off to the industry’s best are invited to compete. This is the contest that proves how important teamwork is in accomplishing a final product.
ABBTF are again a sponsor and keen supporter of this event providing judges, prizes, the trophy and funding. There is an additional bonus for competitors who take on an apprentice.
Competitors are required to lay as many blocks as they can, across a four meter wall for the heats and a seven meter wall for the finals, using standard stretcher blocks and mortar provided. The Grand Final is a 20 minute event. It goes without saying that contestants must have a high degree of workmanship using normal masonry practices and hand tools.
The NQ Supa Trowel Event is based on the “MCAA Fastest Trowel on the Block” competition held each year in Las Vegas. Ours is an adrenalin fuelled race to find the fastest blocklayer in our region – Cape York to Mackay.
The aim of NQ Supa Trowel is to hold an annual event with the goal of promoting the blocklaying trade to the wider community and to attract young people to the industry to build the skills base in North Queensland and Australia.
The’ fastest trowel’ wins a trip to compete at the MCAA Fastest Trowel on the Block in Las Vegas in January 2014.
The Aussie event is on again this year on Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th September 2013 and will be held In conjunction with the Supa Tradies Event at Reid Park, Townsville, Qld
