Bronson, a St George Illawarra Dragon and Australian Apprenticeships Ambassador, employs two apprentice bricklayers together with his bricklayer brother Cheyne in their construction business.   It’s great to hear of a top sportsman with a plan for life beyond NRL and one prepared to share it with others. Bronson was previously also an Apprentice Mentor in the NRL’s Trade UP program.
Bronson says developing their employees at Lee Bryce Construction is rewarding and having a positive financial impact.

“We make sure our apprentices understand the impact they have on all aspects of the business,” Bronson said. We try to help them become not only better bricklayers, but better people as well. There is so much for them to learn – giving them some structure in their life gives them the best chance to succeed.”

“A lot of the skills that you’re learning to become a fully-fledged NRL player transfer across to your professional life. You need to make sure that you understand that Rugby League’s only a short period of your life, you’ve still got a good 30, 40 or 50 years after that”, says Bronson.

“If you get in there, and you’re amongst a good group of people that take pride in their work then it’s a good environment to be in.”

Bronson enjoys being around bricklaying and describes it as “good honest work” with opportunities for new apprentices, due to the shortage of skilled bricklayers at present.   When asked how it compared to rugby he said “It’s a bit harder on the body, but you need people doing these kinds of trades….and I know there are not enough workers in the brick and blocklaying [industry], so they’re screaming out for apprentices.”

Bronson is also featured on TradieExchange, a website where Bricklayers can create an Online Business Profile to connect and get found by others across Trades for jobs and business. Thanks for the ABBTF plug guys!
