Host bricklaying trainer Noel Green and his apprentice Jay Davis must be quite a team having both scored Awards at the the 2017 HIA WA Apprentice-of-the-Year awards ceremony in July in Perth. Noel, of Noel Green Bricklaying was presented with the Host Trainer Award, and Jay his apprentice, won overall Third-Year Apprentice-of-the-Year plus Best Third-Year bricklaying apprentice.

It’s a Step-Up in Skills to World Competition

From past experiences we’ve learned how critical the training period between bricklaying’s WorldSkills Nationals and the International is. One key difference going into our next international will be the support of the newly created ABBTF “World Class Bricklaying Scholarship”. It will be integral in not only holding our high standing but improving on it. The added bonus is that it also filters through to the general industry and the training sector as they become involved in the development of our representative.

It is always good to see fellow Australians when travelling overseas, but it’s even better when we are supporting our leading apprentice tradesmen and women – our Skillaroos, at such a major event that was WorldSkills in Leipzig, Germany recently.
