Illawarra TAFE at Wollongong hosted the CMAA Golden Trowel Competition on October 11 – 13. A highlight of the event was the decoration in the form of oversized towels and a huge concrete masonry block. This was a great promotion along with specially made sponsors banners and large photos of the beautiful Illawarra region.
George Dragovic, Head Teacher Building and Construction was the creator of this great display setting the stage for the Golden Trowel Competition over the two days. George is known for his creativity and passion for the trade and this was some of his finest work. We congratulate all involved and the industry is indebted to TAFE Illawarra for the professional manner in which they hosted the event.
Visitors including media, industry personnel and apprentices from other trades at the TAFE were all impressed by the set out as well as the competition.
The Golden Trowel competition is now in its 22nd year and has established itself as the premier team competition for bricklaying and blocklaying apprentices.
The Golden Trowel Award for 2015 was won by the team from Coffs Harbour TAFE who produced an outstanding result in completing the intricate concrete masonry project. TAFE teacher Mr Paul Venn led the winning team with apprentices Michael Bonar and Jacob Wade.
