If you are interested in learning how to become a bricklayer in Australia then we recommend following these steps:
- Attend a Work Ready Program: these free programs are run by ABBTF mostly at the local trade TAFE. They are designed to give you a ‘taste’ of bricklaying before committing to a 3-4 year apprenticeship and usually run for 4-5 days. Anyone who is considering an apprenticeship in bricklaying can come and learn about the trade while getting a taste of what bricklaying is about, prior to committing to a full-time apprenticeship. The programs usually run at TAFEs and Registered Training Organisation (RTO) throughout the country.
- Find an Employer: once you have completed the Work Ready Program, ABBTF will help place you with an employer who is willing to take on an apprentice.
- Choose a Training Provider: your on-site training will be provided by a TAFE or a RTO.
- Stay Focused: You’ll spend the next 3-4 years training as an apprentice with your employer. When you complete your apprenticeship you’ll be a qualified Bricklayer/Blocklayer.
