Try Bricklaying While at School
Want to try bricklaying while you are still at school? ABBTF offers a unique opportunity for secondary school students in Years 10, 11 and 12 to experience bricklaying in a hands-on training course – the Step Out Program.
This program provides a ‘taster’ for a future pathway to an Australian Apprenticeship in bricklaying and the potential for a rewarding career in the building and construction industry.
Step Out Programs are held at TAFE’s, Registered Training Organisations (RTO’s) and secondary schools through Australia. Contact your careers teacher or ABBTF.
Step Out Program participants will learn:
- Learn and comply with OH&S requirements
- Plan and organise work
- Read and interpret plans
- Learn measurement and calculation
- Use hand and power tools
- Lay bricks and blocks
Step Out Program details are as follows:
- Duration – up to 40 hours
- Group size – 12 – 15 students
- Location – TAFE/RTO or secondary schools
Preference is given to students with a genuine interest in bricklaying with the potential to go onto an apprenticeship. ABBTF Step Out Program is aimed to provide a hands-on experience only and training does not provide credit towards a future bricklaying apprenticeship. Certificates of Participation are awarded to all students who complete the ABBTF Step Out Program. Contact ABBTF for further information.
