Currently, WA tradies are warning the industry of a skill shortage during apprenticeships. Highlighted by Perth Now in a recent article, apprentices are hurtling towards and all-time low.
Our Western Australian manager, Dean Pearson, features in the article stating “our main challenge in these lean times is finding employers who can take on apprentices”.
Bricklaying apprenticeships have dropped from 500 in the 12 months to March 31, 2015 to just 58 in the same period this year, which is a slide of 88 per cent.
“Since 2015-16 things have cooled off, but long term, we still need to train bricklayers. People training now will be we positioned later” says Dean. At ABBTF, we want to provide diverse yet highly skilled apprentices with placements that suit them best.

Hi I have a very keen 16 year old student who would love to complete a bricklaying apprenticeship in the south west of WA. He has recently sat a test at an apprenticeship company in Busselton and passed but nothing has come up. Do you have any contacts down here who can assist him finding him an employer.
